36 Days of Type 2020
36 Days of Type is a yearly open call inviting designers, illustrators, and artists to explore the creative boundaries of letterforms. Participants are challenged to design a letter or number for 36 consecutive days.
My alphabet for 36 Days of Type was inspired by my grapheme-color synesthesia, a sensory condition where my perceptions of letters and numbers are associated with specific colors. The association is involuntary and always consistent. Each letter in my alphabet takes on the color I perceive it as, and I leaned into other visual associations I had with color to create a personality for each letterform and their surrounding environments.
